Bhogwe beach is amongst the prettiest and most secluded beaches in Konkan. Located on the Sagari Mahamarg connecting Malvan to Vengurla Bhogwe has Nivati as its neighbour. Bhogwe beach is the unending stretch of beach to the north of Nivati fort. The beach is scattered with rocks and if you plan to take a dip take a close look before you venture into the sea to avoid the rocks.
Located very close to the popular Tarkarli beach and yet amongst the most secluded beaches in Konkan, thanks to the Karli backwaters seperating the two beaches, Bhogwe is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sindhudurg. With pristine clean white sand beach, swaying palms and a fort in the vicinity Bhogwe has all the charm of a secluded holiday.
Nivati fort located close to Bhogwe today is in ruins however some of the walls of the fort are still in good condition. The ground is covered with thorny bushes. The fort is located on 50m high ground from the sea and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea and the beach. There is a moat around the fort. Nivati fort provides beautiful views of Bhogwe & Nivati beach and the sea. There also is a perennial spring in the fort
The sea near Bhogwe is so clear that the under water visibility is more than 6-8 feets. Bhogwe beach has some rocky stretches so be carefoul if you are venturing in the sea.
The beach seine - net operated from the shore, called 'Rampani fishing' endemic to this region in Konkan is an intriguing sight. The rampani fishing is done between August & January.
Backwaters in Bhogwe
Bhogwe is blessed with a 5 Km long backwater bordering the paddy fields and swaying coconut palms. A cruise in the narrow water lanes of Nivati backwaters displaying the panorama of simple village life is an experience in itself.
